Students in Chemistry courses at Radford University (and throughout the state of Virginia) are required to buy paper lab notebooks at a cost of around $26.50 each semester. Dr. Balija and her team adapted an open-source electronic lab notebook for use in chemistry classes, eliminating the cost of this resource (projected to save Radford students alone more than $13,000 annually), and providing a means of using these notebooks for formative assessment and more consistency across the curriculum. The
The electronic notebook (eLabFTW) is documentation of what is performed in the lab for CHEM 301: Organic Chemistry I as instructed by Dr. Amy Balija. Users will be required to create an account to access the documentation.
